Neill McLeod Civil War Letters, 1862-1863

Neill McLeod (1833-1864) served in the 3rd North Carolina Regiment in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The collection includes a volume of photocopies and typed transcriptions of letters from Neill McLeod, edited with introductory material by Neill Theron Patterson. The letters are largely personal, and describe McLeod's participation in the Gettysburg campaign. Included are a genealogy of the McLeod family; a history and map of the campaigns of the Army of Northern Virginia, 1861-1864; and an outline of the command structure of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Neill McLeod (1833-1864) served in the 3rd North Carolina Regiment in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. He was captured in May 1864 following the battle of the Wilderness and died in prison at Elmira, N.Y., December 1864.
